# ACL CAT

> List the ACL command categories, or the commands and subcommands in one category.

URL: https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/acl-cat/

```
ACL CAT [category]
```

- Group: ACL
- Complexity: O(N) where N is the number of commands
- HotKV Cloud: all plans
- On-Premise: no license needed

Without an argument, `ACL CAT` lists the command categories you can use in
[ACL SETUSER](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/acl-setuser/index.md) rules such as `+@read` or
`-@dangerous`. With a category, it lists the commands in it, in lower case,
with subcommands written as `command|subcommand`. Category names are not
case sensitive.

HotKV has these 25 categories: `keyspace`, `read`, `write`, `set`,
`sortedset`, `list`, `hash`, `string`, `bitmap`, `hyperloglog`, `geo`,
`stream`, `pubsub`, `admin`, `fast`, `slow`, `blocking`, `dangerous`,
`connection`, `transaction`, `scripting`, `bloom`, `cms`, `topk` and
`timeseries`.

## Return value

| Case | RESP2 | RESP3 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| No argument | Array of bulk strings: the categories | Array |
| A category | Array of bulk strings: its commands | Array |
| Unknown category | Error `ERR Unknown category '<category>'` | Same error |
