# ACL WHOAMI

> Return the name of the ACL user the current connection is logged in as.

`ACL WHOAMI` returns the user the current connection runs as. A connection
that has not called [AUTH](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/auth/index.md) or [HELLO](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/hello/index.md) with
credentials runs as `default`.

## Return value

Bulk string in RESP2 and RESP3.

## Examples

127.0.0.1:6379> ACL WHOAMI
"default"
127.0.0.1:6379> AUTH alice s3cret
OK
127.0.0.1:6379> ACL WHOAMI
"alice"
```

## Compatibility

Same as Redis 7 and Valkey 8.
