# AMEM.WORK.GET

> Read a key from an agent session's working memory.

Agent memory gives AI agents four kinds of memory. Working memory is a scratchpad of key and value pairs for a task in progress, grouped by session. `AMEM.WORK.GET` returns the value of `key` in the session.

## Return value

| Case | RESP2 | RESP3 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Key found | Bulk string: the value | Same |
| Key found with an empty value | Empty bulk string | Same |
| No such key or session, or an expired value | Nil bulk string | Null |

A value you stored as an empty string reads back as an empty string, not as nil.

Errors:

- `ERR wrong number of arguments for 'amem.work.get' command` if the argument count is wrong.
- `NOLICENSE agent-memory requires a HotKV license. Contact sales@hotkv.com` if your license does not include the `agent-memory` feature.

## Compatibility

HotKV-only command. Redis and Valkey have no equivalent.
