> Set a key in an agent session's working memory, creating the session if needed.

URL: https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/amem-work-set/

```
AMEM.WORK.SET session_id key value [TTL seconds]
```

- Group: Agent memory
- Complexity: O(1)
- HotKV Cloud: Performance and Scale plans
- On-Premise: requires the agent-memory license feature

Agent memory gives AI agents four kinds of memory. Working memory is a scratchpad of key and value pairs for a task in progress, grouped by session. `AMEM.WORK.SET` stores `value` under `key` in the session,
replacing any previous value. The session is created on first use.

## Options

| Option | Effect |
| --- | --- |
| `TTL seconds` | After this many seconds [AMEM.WORK.GET](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/amem-work-get/index.md) no longer returns the value. Omitted or `0` means no expiry. |

## Return value

| Case | RESP2 | RESP3 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Value stored | Simple string `OK` | Same |

Errors:

- `ERR invalid TTL` if `seconds` is not a non-negative integer. Nothing is stored.
- `ERR wrong number of arguments for 'amem.work.set' command` if the argument count is wrong.
- `NOLICENSE agent-memory requires a HotKV license. Contact sales@hotkv.com` if your license does not include the `agent-memory` feature.
