# PROMPT.GET

> Read the active version of a prompt template, or a specific version.

The prompt registry stores versioned prompt templates by name, with one version marked active, so you can roll a prompt forward or back without deploying code. `PROMPT.GET` returns the active version of template `name`, or
the given `version` if you pass one. Passing `0` as the version is the same
as leaving it out.

## Return value

| Found | Array of four elements: the version (integer), the content (bulk string), the metadata (bulk string, empty if none), the creation time in Unix seconds (integer) | Same |
| No such template or version (including a version that was removed for being too old) | Nil bulk string | Null |

Errors:

- `ERR invalid version` if `version` is not a non-negative integer.
- `ERR wrong number of arguments for 'prompt.get' command` if the argument count is wrong.
- `NOLICENSE prompt-registry requires a HotKV license. Contact sales@hotkv.com` if your license does not include the `prompt-registry` feature.

## Compatibility

HotKV-only command. Redis and Valkey have no equivalent.
