# RESTORE-ASKING

> RESTORE for a slot that is being imported during cluster resharding.

URL: https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/restore-asking/

```
RESTORE-ASKING key ttl serialized-value [REPLACE] [ABSTTL] [IDLETIME seconds] [FREQ frequency]
```

- Group: Keys
- Complexity: O(N) where N is the size of the value
- HotKV Cloud: all plans
- On-Premise: no license needed

`RESTORE-ASKING` takes the same arguments and gives the same replies as
[RESTORE](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/restore/index.md). The difference is in cluster mode: it is
accepted for a key whose slot this node is importing, as if the command had
been preceded by [ASKING](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/asking/index.md). [MIGRATE](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/migrate/index.md)
sends it while a slot moves between nodes. You do not normally send it
yourself.

## Options

The options are those of [RESTORE](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/restore/index.md): `REPLACE`, `ABSTTL`,
`IDLETIME seconds` and `FREQ frequency`.

## Return value

| Case | RESP2 | RESP3 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Restored | Simple string `OK` | Simple string `OK` |

The error replies are the same as for [RESTORE](https://docs.hotkv.com/commands/restore/index.md).

## Examples

```
127.0.0.1:6379> RESTORE-ASKING greeting 0 "\x00\x05hello\t\x00\xb3\x80\x8e\xba1\xb2C\xbb"
OK
```

## Compatibility

Same as Redis 7 and Valkey 8.
